Occupational Therapy in East Brunswick

At East Brunswick Physical Therapy, we focus on more than symptom relief. Our occupational therapy services are designed to help you build strength, coordination, and real world skills for everyday life. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or adapting after surgery, your care plan is personalized to support the goals that matter most to you.

We proudly serve East Brunswick and nearby communities, helping patients of all ages improve function and quality of life through one-on-one, goal-focused therapy.

What Is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy helps people regain or improve the ability to complete daily activities. These activities can include getting dressed, preparing meals, using a computer, driving, returning to work tasks, or safely caring for a home and family. Occupational therapy may be recommended after an injury, illness, surgery, neurological event, or when chronic symptoms make everyday life harder than it should be.

The goal is simple: help you move through your day with more independence, safety, and confidence.

Conditions We Treat with Occupational Therapy

Our licensed occupational therapists work closely with your chiropractor and the rest of your care team to support recovery for a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Post surgical rehabilitation (shoulder, hand, wrist, elbow)
  • Stroke and neurological recovery
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive strain injuries
  • Arthritis and joint stiffness
  • Traumatic brain injury or concussion recovery
  • Work-related injuries and ergonomics
  • Developmental delays in children
  • Chronic pain and fatigue syndromes
  • Balance and coordination deficits

What to Expect During Your OT Sessions

Your therapy begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your functional challenges and personal goals. From there, we create a customized plan designed around your needs, your lifestyle, and what you want to get back to doing.
Your plan may include:

  • Hands-on therapy to improve mobility, dexterity, and strength
  • Functional training for tasks like grooming, dressing, and meal prep
  • Adaptive techniques and assistive devices to make daily tasks easier
  • Cognitive exercises for memory, attention, and problem solving
  • Pain management strategies
  • Home modification recommendations to support safety and independence
As you progress, your plan evolves. We adjust your care along the way to help you keep moving forward, with long-term function always in mind.

Integrated Care, Better Results

At East Brunswick Physical Therapy, we believe better communication leads to better outcomes. Our occupational therapists work alongside chiropractors, physical therapists, and other providers under one roof. This collaborative approach supports whole-body recovery and helps ensure your care feels coordinated, consistent, and focused on the results you are working toward.

A Patient Success Story

Back in August I slipped and fell on my right wrist and broke it. I quickly realized it was a distal radial break and didn’t need surgery. However the recovery would be a long process where the bone would be healing itself and I would wear a cast for 6 weeks followed by occupational therapy 3x a week.

I work a very physically intensive job as a bridal consultant where I roll, clamp, clip, carry, and fluff heavy wedding dresses that range from 3-20 pounds. This being said, I would be out of work for a long time realizing I couldn’t fully bend my wrist after getting my cast off on Sept 23. With little hope of returning to work before the New Year, each session with Michelle provided me with more and more relief through exercises focusing on manual and strengthening work.

We would utilize a towel wrapped around a pole to address the rolling and clamping movements I do everyday at work with dresses. Stretching through the elastic bands, lifting weights and utilizing the ultrasound machine led me to my fast recovery!

In the beginning of my journey we tested the strength of my right hand and it measured around 40 pounds. Luckily with the progression and Michelle’s guidance, I measured my hand strength at 80 pounds (double my initial strength). With me physically seeing my right hand get stronger again (being a dominant righty) and the ability to gain confidence I got from Occupational Therapy of East Brunswick, I was able to jump back into work by October 16 and manage the duties I had while also receiving positive x-rays of the bone healed!

Thank you SO much again Michelle!
